Androst-3,5-dien-7,17-dione - a naturally occurring metabolite of 7-oxygenated DHEA, which unlike DHEA does not have the capability of converting to estrogen and will not bind androgen receptors. DIM produces a highly active metabolis m of estrogen, unmetabolized estrogen levels fall and the 2-hydroxy-estrogens increase. 2-hydroxy-estrogens are unique in that they possess the ability to release bound testosterone from SHGB. Therefore, the combined effect of DIM to reduce unmetabolized estrogen and increase 2-hydroxy-estrogens can reduce elevations in SHGB and allow for an influx in free unbound testosterone. Both of these changes help maintain and restore a youthful balance between estrogen and free testosterone, which is a balance that is crucial to a healthy and active metabolism.
